What Doodles work well with Letters?
While you can add Doodle Letters to ANY pattern, the following patterns are great options:
-
Holiday Doodle - try using Merry, Holly, HoHoHo, Noel, Let It Snow, etc.
-
Autumn Doodle - try using Boo!, Eek!, Haunted, Ghosts, Halloween, etc.
-
8 Bit Doodle - try using Game Over, Player One, Extra Life, etc.
Sports Doodle Beanies
Use the Doodle Letters to add your favorite team name with the Sports Doodle - create a set of sideline beanies perfect for your next tailgating party! You can even add some additional sports motifs or search the Doodle Library of motifs for your favorite team mascot!
Doodle Stockings
Use the letters below to add your family names to the Holiday Doodle Stocking pattern - creating heirloom quality knits for the whole family! You can work the letters as traditional stranded knitting or duplicate stitch in a different color once your stocking is complete!
NOTE: When working the stocking pattern above, you'll want to ensure you're knitting the letters upside-down, as this is a top-down knit!
How to Use these Doodle Alphabet Charts
While you can use these on any Doodle, they do take a little time for you to "design" your word or phrase. Follow the steps below to help you plan and re-draw your specific Doodle Alphabet Chart.

Step 1: Choose Small or Large Letters based on the decision logic listed below. Each type of chart works well for specific situations, or the design aesthetic you are intending.
NOTE: You can also mix the letters if you'd like - be sure to check your stitches long each round so larger/taller letters don't end up causing too many extra long floats!
Step 2: Download a Blank Doodle Letter Chart here. This chart is available in both the standard 24-stitch Doodle Repeat, as well as longer options for longer words or phrases that you might want to write out.
NOTE: If you're using a longer Blank Chart, be sure that the total stitch count on your project still works with that number. For example, if you're using the 48-stitch chart and your hat has 120 stitch cast on (i.e. 48 + 48 + 24), you'll have a leftover 24-stitches that won't work in that repeat.
Step 3: Re-Draw your Letters on the Blank Chart. As a general guideline, include roughly 1-stitch between each letter within a word and 4-6 stitches between each word. If you want your letters more spaced out, you can add additional stitches between each letter. If you want more flair between each word, you can add other motifs, Dots, or Stars as well. Try different layouts to see which works best for you!
NOTE: If your word takes up most of the repeat, make sure you plan for extra stitches (i.e. spacing) at the start or end of your word, so it doesn't look like one long word when knit up - you don't want LOVE to turn into LOVELOVELOVE.
Small Letter Charts
These letters work well with nearly any Doodle Pattern because they are consistently sized to scale with the majority of charts. They are also all roughly 4-6 stitches wide (including letter spacing) so that they fit into 12-stitch and 24-stitch repeats. This makes them ideal to fit into both the Doodle Series Patterns as well as many other existing colorwork repeats.

Below are the Small Doodle Letter charts:
Examples: Small Letter Charts
The following examples illustrate how you might use the Small Doodle Letter chart options within the basic 24 sts of the Doodle Charts. Most of these letter knit charts are also flexible within any stitch count that is a multiple of 4 (3 stitch wide letters + 1 stitch spacing).
Large Letter Charts
These letters work well with any stitch count that's a multiple of 6 sts, such as 6, 12, 18, 24, 48, etc. This makes them ideal to fit into both the Doodle Series Patterns, which are a multiple of 24 stitches, as well as many other existing colorwork repeats.

The following examples illustrate how you might use the Large Doodle Letter chart options within the basic 24 sts of the Doodle Charts. Most of these letter knit charts are also flexible within any stitch count that is a multiple of 6 (5 stitch wide letters + 1 stitch spacing).
