Which Doodles work well with letters?
While you can add these Alphabet Doodle letter charts to ANY Doodle pattern, here are a few examples to get you inspired:
Sports Doodle Beanies
Use the Alphabet Doodle to add your favorite team name to the Sports Doodle!
Create a set of custom sideline beanies perfect for your next tailgating party. You can even add some additional sports motifs or browse our Doodle Collections to see if we have your team mascot!
Doodle Stockings
Use the Alphabet Doodle to add your family names to the Holiday Doodle Stocking pattern to create heirloom-quality knits for the whole family!
You can work the letters as traditional stranded knitting or duplicate stitch in a different color once your stocking is complete!
NOTE: When working Holiday Doodle Stocking, you'll want to ensure you're knitting the letters upside-down, as this is a top-down knit!
How to use the Alphabet Doodle charts
Follow the steps below to help you use the Alphabet Doodle to design, plan and re-draw your custom word chart:

STEP 1
Grab the Blank Charts from the Alphabet Doodle PDF.
These Blank Charts are available in both the standard 24-stitch Doodle Repeat, as well as 36 and 48-stitch options for longer words or phrases that you might want to write out.
Using a longer custom chart? Be sure that the total stitch count on your project still works for the length of your custom chart repeat. For example, if your word/phrase is 48 sts, make sure your total stitch count is divisible by 48, so you don't end up with half a word at the end of the round!
STEP 2
Choose either Small or Large letters.
Each size chart works best in specific situations - play around and see what you think looks best for your project!
You can also mix the letter sizes if you like - just be sure to pay attention to the design so that the taller letters don't end up causing too many extra long floats!
STEP 3
Re-Draw your chosen letters on the Blank Charts.
Unsure about spacing? We recommend you include roughly 1-stitch between each letter within a word, and 4-6 stitches between each word. If you want your letters more spaced out, you can add additional stitches between each letter.
Want to add some flair? Try adding extra motifs between the words! Find some cute coordinating motifs to make your words more whimsical!
NOTE: If your word takes up most of the repeat, make sure you plan for extra stitches (i.e. spacing) at the start or end of your word, so it doesn't look like one long word when knit up - you don't want LOVE to turn into LOVELOVELOVE.
Examples of custom word charts
Small Letter Charts
These letters work well with any stitch count that's a multiple of 4 (3 st letter + 1 st of spacing) but we encourage makers to get extra creative with how they write out their words and combine with other images!
Large Letter Charts
These letters work well with any stitch count that's a multiple of 6 (5 st letter + 1 st of spacing) but there is still plenty of room to play around with fun combinations!
Time to design your own!
